Lib Dem Michael Bound wins Baughurst by-election4.41.41pm GMT Sun 3rd Feb 2008
The local Liberal Democrat Candidate, Michael Bound has won the by election held on 24th Jan 08 in the Baughurst Ward of Basingstoke and Deane taking the seat previously held by Conservative, the late Sheila Allen. Robert Cooper, Chair NW Hants Liberal Democrats, commented on Michael's victory - "When we started Michael's campaign before Christmas, it was clear the people of Baughurst were pleased that a local person of Michael's caliber was standing for election as their Representative on the Basingstoke and Dean Borough Council. Michael has lived locally for many years, and this will stand him in good stead - he has a good understanding of local issues, and I hope to see over the coming months Michael making a real difference to life of people in Baughurst." Result: Michael Bound (LD) 428 Zoe Peta Wheddon (Con) 368 Majority 60 Turnout 40%
