Great response in Andover town centre to petition against health cuts.10.14.28am BST (GMT +0100) Mon 4th Apr 2005
In just over 2 hours last Saturday morning in Andover town centre, more than 450 people signed a Liberal Democrat petition against the proposed cuts in NHS staffing in the Winchester & Eastleigh Healthcare Trust and the Mid Hampshire Primary Care Trust. "This shows how angry people are about the proposed cuts" commented Martin Tod, Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Candidate for North West Hampshire. "We keep hearing about all the extra money Labour has promised to the NHS, but this doesn't match up to the threat of cuts that we are hearing about from local NHS management. There was tremendous support for our petition because local people don't believe there should be cuts in front line health and hospital services." Robin Hughes, Leader on the Liberal Democrat group on Test Valley Borough Council commented. "Andover is growing and its services and facilities need to be growing. It makes no sense at all that there should be any threat to health services in the Andover area." You can help this campaign by printing a petition form from our Download page, getting it filled up and sending it to the address at the bottom. Every signature counts!
